ENERGY STAR Choose a Light Guide

A handy new tool is now available through our partnership with Energy Star, the Choose a Light Guide. This straightforward, simple, web-based tool will guide you through choosing the right type of energy-saving lamp for each household application. We've included it on each of our compact fluorescent product pages to help you choose the right bulb. We understand that buying a CFL is an investment compared to the standard, traditional "throwaway" light bulb, but an important one, and we hope this helps.

New addition to the site

We've been toying with the idea of a light bulb blog as a tool to help our customers both find and navigate the site. As you can tell, it's an idea that has been in the works but is now ready for launch. We hope you find this helpful - useful information in selecting bulbs, familiarizing yourself with new products, and getting to know us. Please let us know what you think- we invite suggestions and comments!

Neat article about the inventor of the CFL

The inventor of the compact fluorescent light bulbs is a pretty interesting guy. Learn about how he invented the bulb here!

Additions to our line of MR-16 halogen bulbs

We've recently expanded our online inventory of halogen MR-16 bulbs.

MR-16s (2" mini-reflectors) are popular choices for track, accent and landscape lighting. The variety and amount of light these little bulbs are capable of producing make them a fantastic option for a wide range of applications. MR-16 bulbs can be as low as 10 watts and as high as 75 watts, with beam spreads ranging from a very narrow spot of 7 degrees to a wide flood of 60.

There are color corrective options available from Solux and now Ushio great for displaying collections from art to fine gems and jewelry- a great choice to highlight natural and true color.

There is also a wide range of lamp life choices... starting from a basic 3000-hour bulb for easy-to-change locations all the way up to the 18000-hour Ushio Titan line, perfect for hard-to-reach track heads and difficult-to-change landscape fixtures.

Ever wonder why compact fluorescent light bulbs are swirly?

It's all about area! The more surface area, the more light can be emitted in the smaller form factor of the bulb. That's the easy way to explain it. Think of it as the same tube, just swirled up.
